About Puri :

          Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath, is only 62 kms. from Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. A place of colourful festivals with gay abandon round the year, it has drawn millions of pilgrims from all over India for centuries.The stupendous structure of 65 metres main temple stands on an elevated platform in the heart of the town exclusively commanding an area of about ten kilometers. It is a monument of the 12th century A.D. with all the richness and plasticity of the Kalingan architecture.

The clear blue sky pierced by the pinnacle of the soaring temple, the soft golden sands of the expansive beach on the long line of the billowy Bay and the soft soothing sea-breeze are the permanent attractions which allure thousands of foreign and domestic tourist throughout the year. In fact a visitor can find no better place to relax than in this haven on the seashore – Puri. Puri is known as "Jagannath Dham", Sea known as "Mahodadhi" & the Sand is known as "Saradha Baali" and the street from Lord Jagannath Temple to Mausimaa Temple is called the "Badadanda" or the Grand road.

The Festival

The Puri Beach Festival is a unique event and first of its kind in the eastern part of India organized by the Hotel Association of Puri. Earlier the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Orissa (HRAO) in association with the HAP had been organizing this festival since last 13 years. The Hotel Association of Puri took over the responsibility of being the host and carried forward this event from the 14th year. With great enthusiasm and dedication the members of HAP made it an international event with the participation of artists / cultural troupes from foreign countries directly and under the aegis of ICCR, New Delhi.The 17th Puri beach festival is scheduled to be held from 23rd to 29th November, 2011 on the golden sands of the famous Puri beach in Odisha against the back drop of the vast blue expanse of the Bay of Bengal. Puri beach festival is dedicated at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Jagannath, the Lord of Universe who is the embodiment of equality, fraternity and unity irrespective of religion, cast, creed, language and faith. After the traditional Rath Yatra, the car festival held in the month of June / July which draws draws more than 10 lakhs devotees, the Puri Beach Festival attracts lakhs of visitors to enjoy the beautiful golden beach, see and purchase the exquisite handicrafts and handloom products and witness the cultural programme by a galaxy of artistes of national and international repute from inside the country and abroad.       Read More »
